About Doug Oglesby

Doug Oglesby I have been taking pictures of our amazing world for over 30 years. Nature inspires me. The ruggedness of the mountains, the tranquility of a mountain lake at sunrise, the serenity of a small and remote waterfall, the relentless power of the ocean, the delicate balance of predator and prey. It's all amazing to me and I cannot get enough of it.

My work is photographic art. What you see in my finished work is the scene as I felt it, as I want to remember it, and as I wish you to experience it. To achieve this objective I may, depending on the circumstances: adjust color and light; remove objects that interfere with my artistic vision; and add or modify elements that enhance my artistic vision. This is similar in a sense to painting. The end result is a fine art photograph, infused with my artistic vision.

When I’m on location I will occasionally use graduated neutral density filters. However, I usually take multiple exposures and blend them in Photoshop later. I describe my personal style as ethereal and surreal. I prefer shooting on the edge of the day when the sun is either not visible or very low in the sky, using slow shutter speeds to exaggerate motion or smooth out turbulent water.

As for my personal life, I have a beautiful wife and daughter and two dogs - Rico and Sonny. I'm an avid sports fan of the San Francisco Giants, 49ers and Golden State Warriors (I grew up in the SF Bay Area, moving to San Diego in 1999). I frequently remind my San Diego friends that the SF Giants have won 3 of the past 6 World Series! I enjoy reading books on history (I find the 18th century and early 19th century an absolutely fascinating period of time) and I actively research genealogy. I try to keep in shape, riding bikes frequently (both mountain and road bicycling).
